THEMES IN THE STORY PROPHET OF ZONGO STREET.

THEMES AND LESSONS FROM THE SHORT STORY WRITTEN BY MOHAMMED NASEEHU ALI ENTITLED THE PROPHET OF ZONGO STREET.

The themes in the story include;

1.Religious Intolerance :In the story, the narrator describes what happens when a man turns his back on tradition, abandons his community, and invents his own belief system. Kumi, the gentle, flower-loving mail clerk, is transformed into someone to be avoided. After his solitary death, only the fourteen-year-old narrator believes that Kumi was, indeed, something of a prophet.He was shunned because of religion differences.

2.Persistence: Though he was neglected, Kumi never stopped his work of making known the 'truth' (as the story says).He was persistent and determined.

3.Internal Conflict :After Kumi had started his religious role,the writer had to quarrel within himself, which religion was right. Kumi's or his parents. Which eventually lead to disbelieve and doubts.

4. Curiosity :The writer was so curious to know every details he could .This curiosity eventually led him to disobey his mother and continued to stay close to Kumi.
One should know that the truth doesn't always comes to you. You need to find it.
